Oceanside, California Workshop Retreat
Thursday, August 9 at 4:00pm to Sunday, August 12 at 10:00am
In order to make money as a photographer, you have to know how to price, package, and sell your work. Through this workshop, you will learn how to capture images that reflect who you are as an artist and photographer. I will show you how to self critique and teach you goal setting exercises to continue your growth. I will also give you a comprehensive pricing overview, including how to create packages that encourage your customers to spend more purely by adding the right value. Lessons with tons of hands-on shooting, you’ll learn how to catch natural expressions, how to create portraits that illustrate family relationships, and how to roll with any situation to get the best from your tiny subjects. I will also share all my secrets for marketing to mommies, consultations that increase sales, and workflow that leaves more profit in your pricing. The skills you learn at this workshop will give you the confidence and skill you need to give families photos they’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Prior to our start date, I will host an online webinar discussing the “basics” that go into fine art photography. I will cover camera settings and how to achieve tack-sharp images while retaining a soft and dreamy quality. I will cover lens choice as well as why and when it is useful to use some lenses over others. I will also touch on successful branding and why it is important. I like to get this stuff out of the way before the workshop commences so that we can focus on the ‘good’ stuff once we arrive in California.
There is a cap of 11 attendees and a minimum of 5 attendees are required for the workshop to take place.
This massive 8 bedroom 5 bathroom luxury oceanfront home features panoramic views, a rooftop terrace, a fire pit, 2 hot tubs, and a private beach! The view right outside the living space is beyond spectacular. Panoramic doors open up and allow you direct access to the beach. Private rooms have a Queen or King sized bed and shared rooms have twin size bunk beds.
Check-in is at 4:00pm on Thursday and check-out is at 10:00am on Sunday.
Thursday we will begin the workshop by meeting at our Oceanfront Estate in Oceanside, California to say our hellos, unpack, and enjoy a welcome dinner together. After dinner, we will travel to an amazing sparkly light filled beach destination together to capture images of beautiful children. We will focus on posing, lighting, and connection with your subjects. After the shoot, we will have all night to talk around the fire pit, relax in the spa, and spend time on the private beach.
On Friday we will enjoy the morning relaxing before having breakfast together at 9am, then we will head out for a short walk to a nearby park. There we will focus on lighting, posing, and connection with your subject AND the environment. We will discuss the concept of using the environment and its elements as a prop instead of relying on outside objects. I will show you how I use regular, non scouted locations to create magical images. At 1pm we will have lunch at The Buccaneer Cafe. After we finish, we will reconvene at the retreat where we will meet in the billiards room for a demonstration of indoor shooting with natural light. You will also have an opportunity to shoot. At 5pm we will enjoy a BBQ dinner on the deck overlooking the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. We will then head out to the beach in the golden hour for an AMAZING styled shoot.
On Saturday we will start the morning early with a sunrise session on the rooftop terrace followed by breakfast at 7am. When everyone is finished eating we will take a short break, then gather to have a group discussion. I will work with all of you on editing, and you will work with each other. After spending the morning editing we will enjoy panoramic ocean views as we have lunch together. Then at 1pm we will have a critique session to go over everyone's final images. I will have one on one time with each of you to discuss pricing, marketing, sales, and products. We will then take another short break followed by a final Farewell Oceanside Dinner at Olive Garden. The rest of the evening will be for relaxing and packing.
On Sunday morning we will join for breakfast and discussion at 8am and say goodbye
